Error 1316

When the program suggests that I upgrade, I accept, but not far into the
installation process I get this error: "Error 1316.A network error occurred
while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded
Installations\{78CB0701-6520-4FAE-99CE-20DE50BEF25C}\msantispy.msi"

This has happened both times I have accepted the upgrade suggestion. I then
went to the AntiSpyware home page and downloaded
MicrosoftAntiSpywareInstall.exe to my desktop and tried installing from that
-- same thing. The version I currently have installed is 1.0.615.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Joel

Here's what I'd try for this one:

1) Go to control panel, add or remove programs, and try removing Microsoft
Antispyware--lets see whether that elicits the same error. If that works,
go ahead and run the downloaded file to reinstall.

If not:
2) Using Windows Explorer, go to c:\windows\downloaded installations

In the folder that is listed below, double-click on Microsoft
Antispyware.msi and see whether that initiates the Maintenance Wizard.

Let me know what happens--I suspect that either that folder is missing, or
the permissions on it or the contained file are set so that the current user
can't execute it--thus the "network" error.

If that folder is missing, I think the way to proceed is to download the
Windows Installer Cleanup tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Install this, run it, and use it to remove the Installer bits for Microsoft
Antispyware.

Then run the download you did to reinstall the latest version.

Once you've reinstalled, go to Help, About to be certain you are on 1.0.701.
It isn't impossible that your download is still version .615. If that's the
case, either wait for another automatic download (which should work this
time around)--or re-download from the download center, hoping to get the
real .701.

Bill,

I hadn't tried doing the uninstall first, in case there was a quicker fix.
However, I just did it, and it uninstalled and then installed just fine. As
soon as the install completed, it told me there were updates, but the updates
also occurred without error.

Thanks,
Joel
