error 0x800CCC33

When accessing my hotmail account via Outlook (not Express) I constantly get
this error:

Sending' reported error (0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the account was denied.
Verify that your username and password are correct. The server responded
'Forbidden'. '

I then go to my hotmail account via IE & I have to type in the letters that
appear in the box. This happens about every other time I send & receive.

How can I keep this from happening?

If this is not a paid Hotmail account, you can't use Outlook to access it.

This is EXACTLY the same problem I have. It began fewer than 36 hours ago.
I have tried everything to fix it. At first I thought it was something
wrong with MS Office Outlook 2003, but now I think it must be Hotmail. Can
anyone please shed light on this?

Since when does this Hotmail account have to be a paid account? I have been
using my account for several years with no problems. This problem only
appeared fewer than 36 hours ago. Also, I have NEVER had to type in the
garbled letters and numbers to authenticate myself when I use a web browser
to access the account.

Furthermore, this behavior is not consistent. Every now and then Outlook
reverts to its normal behavior and I can see and download my messages in
Outlook. But then it goes screwy again.

By April, ALL free Hotmail accounts will cease working with Outlook and
Outlook Express. Microsoft announced this months ago.

At which point I will stop using Hotmail and move all other pop/imap
accounts to thunderbird.

Although "thunderbird" is a mail client and not a server (so you'll need to
find another server, too), this is certainly an appropriate response, and
one I'm sure Microsoft would agree is a good idea, since the free Hotmail
accounts contribute nothing but red ink to the bottom line.

but what's the solution

I have the same issue but worse:
- I have paid to use Outlook (I need to read new format pst folders)
- when I do login via IE I don't get the screen with characters to guess so the problem persists
- I have emails still stuck in my outbox unsent and everytime I try "send/receive" I get the error "0x800CCC33...... access to the account was denied..." which I don't understand as I am receiving emails OK.

The discussion seemed to move from the technical issue to a commercial one without yet solving the problem.

can anyone help?

I think I have found my particular problem. There are two different login approaches to "Windows Live Hotmail". I have been logging in via "Windows Live" which doesn't give the characters

http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...ly=http://mail.live.com/default.aspx&id=64855

The old login I used before "Wndows Live" (which I think I needed to register for when I subscribed to use Outlook even though I don't know what it is) still works and gives the characters to identify.

This is how I fixed this problem

I was receiving this same error. This is what happened. I have been using the Hotmail Plus account (paid service) from hotmail and using Outlook 2007 to send/receive through there http servers in Outlook. Somehow after Windows Live was created my account changed to Windows Live from MSN Hotmail. From my research I believe MSN Hotmail is now extinct. Well I wasn't too happy about this mainly because my Outlook send didn't work after my MSN was conerted to Windows Live. I was getting e-mails from hotmail saying I need to sign in to verify my account (helping to prevent spam). This did periodically happen before my account was converted to Windows Live which was fine. I would go to the web version of Hotmail, enter their security letter verification and then I could send/receive through outlook. Well, after the account was converted to Windows Live I was not getting the security verification letters anymore. Another problem I am having is I can't click the sign-out and successfully sign off of windows live. To get around this I have to keep clearing my cookies to sign off.

My solution:
I went to the address http://hotmail.msn.com and I finally got to the security verification charecters. After entering them, I can now send e-mails again. I don't know how long this fix will work but it's working for now.

I also installed Microsoft Messenger thinking this might have caused the issue. Don't know if this did have any effect on Outlook however.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, yes the link you sent works. Seems we have the same setup and issues. I found that the emails from "hotmail staff" to tell me to go to the web i/f and check the characters were going automatically to the junk folder - quite ironic.

Other minor issue is irritating popups while in Outlook asking my Hotmail username and password. It often takes several clicks to finally chase them away.

thanks thanks thanks..I didnt have to use my username or password becuz it was already there...everything would come up right but at the end of the send it would say the same thing with the error message asking me to verify my user and password...it would also say that a connection was established but it was forbidden by hotmail...so lets hope this works for now or..if a person didnt have outlook...then would hotmail come up as the email sender for websites that have a place to send emails...that is what use to happen....anyway thanks...
