I started geeting the above error message when I try and use my Outlook 2003.
I have check with my ISP and they say they are having no problems. I also can
download message to anouther PC with no problems. I try the repair and detect
but no help.

1) Is your operating system Windows XP (SP2)? If yes, how long have you had
SP2 installed?

2) Do you have any antivirus, antispam, or firewall software installed that
protects e-mail? (Does it do its protection thru localhost?) If yes, you
may have to uninstall/reinstall the product w/out e-mail integration.

3) Symantec put out a bad update on Dec. 6th that could cause this issue.
Symantec advises that all the user has to do is run liveupdate again to
obtain the fix.

ps - the error number means the connection was dropped. MS/MVPs are starting
to see a high rate of these in the last few days. pretty much at a loss
because some report its symantec, zone alarm, panda, .etc.

XP pro sp 2 (I think) Kerio firewall , AVG anti_virus, and Norton 2002, also
I use I hate Spam. SP 2 would have been installed say several months ago. I
have lso turn off all of the above and still get the error message. I beleve
Norton was updated but I will try that Friday.

Thanks for the help on this. Any ideas gratefully accepted
Dennis.
