Error # : 0x80040201

I have Window XP professional OS installed on my m/c and
I tried to install sound blaster card and I got this error

Error #: 0x80040201
Description : An event was unable to invoke any of the
subscribers.

Setup will now terminate

Same message comes when I try to use modify, remove or
repair option on the installation CD. I talked with the
creative labs technical support and they said it was the
windows problem.
Please help me if anyone has any answer to this problem.
