I have Outlook 2005 but when I try to send an email I receive the message:

<Task 'BigPond Broadband Email - Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The
operation failed. An object could not be found.>

Please help.

The first thing I'd try is to do a Detect & Repair operation. It's on the
Help menu in Outlook

Thanks Vince.. Interestingly the Detect & Repair didn't work with the option
"Restore my shortcuts while repairing" but worked (eventually) when I
selected the second option "Discard my cutomized settings and restore my
default settings". This is because when I then went to open Outlook it took
me to the configuration wizard and because I didn't know these settings I had
to ring my server support line who guided me through the wizard. So got there
eventually and it now works!

Cheers, bartl

Vince,

Thanks a million. I've been struggling for 5 days trying to get Outlook to
work on my new Dell Dimension. You're advice seems to have solved the problem
identified as error message 0x8004010F

Finally, someone said all that had to be said regarding the running of
Detect & Repair for this problem that's been plagueing myself and many other
for many weeks if not longer. BUT can anyone now tell me how to get back my
address book and all my contacts ? Where are they; and how can I back them
up onto a Flash Drive ? USB. Thank You !

The locations for the files Outlook uses are listed here:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm . Backup and restore
methodologies are listed here:
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm . You can certainly
back the data files up to a flash drive. Detect and Repair should not
affect your data, but it's always safe to back up.

Thank You !

I'll give it a shot for backing-up whatever is left that I can find. I
did a search for "*.pst" and got nothing at all; but I understand that this
type of file remains a "Hidden File". Will they Back-Up to my Flash Drive
without my doing anything to them such as "Un-Hiding" them ???

Thanks Again !

Hello & My Apologies !

I don't believe I explained my current problem clearly enough. I need to
Back-Up my "Contacts List", and "Address Book"; along with some Emails that I
had saved if possible.

When I executed the "Detect & Repair" everything disappeared. Admittedly
I've really botched this operation up; but I understand that either Outlook
or MicroSoft maintains these files for just this type of screw-up.

Can anyone tell me how to go about and Back-Up these items to a Flash
Drive ?
When I tried to use the Outlook Help Back-Up, I got the same error or
"0x8004010F... Object Not Found".

Thanks Again !

Since nothing on your flash drive will be hidden unless you set the Hidden
attribute, once you put the data file(s) on your flash drive, you'll be able
to see them whenever you open the drive. If you want to see hidden files,
click Start>Control Panel>Appearances and Themes>Filder Options>View and
check the option to show hidden files and folders. Were it I, I'd also
uncheck the box labeled "Hide extensions of known file types".

The Outlook Address Book does not contain ANY data and, therefore, requires
no backup. The address book is just a view of those entries in your
Contacts folder(s) that have electronic addresses (i.e., email addresses and
FAX numbers). Moreover, all of your Outlook folders are generally on a
single file: the "Personal Folders" file, or PST. The references I gave you
should explain that.
When I executed the "Detect & Repair" everything disappeared.

Not true. Neither Outlook nor Microsoft ever make backups on your behalf.
That's your job. Chances are, the Detect and Repair created a new mail
profile for you (Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Mail>Show Profiles), as
well as a new PST. Your old profile and your old PST should still be
available on your disk. In fact, if you switch Outlook to using the old
profile, chances are that your data will reappear.

WIth Outlook closed, copy your PST to the flash drive. That's it.
