Here's the error message i'm getting when I click Start Scan. I have the

aware of this?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi,

I'm getting exactly the same error - if anyone knows a solution, I'd really
appreciate it.

Thanks,

This error happens to me as well. When i havn't scanned for 3 days i get a
taskbar icon (bricks with an exclamation mark). I open up windows defender &
it tells me 'You haven't scanned your computer in 3 days' & gives me the
option to 'start scan' click it & the error pops up.

Hi Joe,
the bug doesn't seem to be fixed as I just received the same message when i
click start scan "Error 0x80004403 pointer error"

Joe,

Did you mean that it is fixed and the fix will appear in a future engine
relase? The error still occurs here (Engine Version: 1.1.1186.0).

I've recently installed this program instead of the Beta 1 spyware
program...I have the same problem when I click the "start scan" button on the
home page of the software...error 0x8000403...I can click on the scan menu
along the top of the dialogue box, but I then get a different message, after
approx 1 minute into the scan...error 0x8050800c. An unexpected problem has
occured. Install any available updates and then try to start the program
again...There are no available updates either through the program or windows
updates.

I cannot actually scan my computer...?

Regards,

Tom

I had the same error, but it has fixed itself now. I went to the Help
Options and chose About Windows Defender and clicked on look for updates. It
reported no system updates or definitions but upon going back to the home
screen it said there were no threats and it stated time of scan being the
time I chose to look for updates. Now no problems.

For the first error try running a full scan and see if it works. The second
error try running chkdsk on your computer and see if there is any drive
errors and if it does and chkdsk fixes them try running another scan.

He Joe,

You know we are are not here f****ing about with your half assed software
for fun you know.

It is very magnanamous of you to note some users found errors and, further,
it helped you fixed the actual error.... To the point of being exceptionally
rude.

DO you have any suggestions for someone (a lot of us apparently) who have
installed his software and experienced nothing but bugs?!

Are we supposed to guess how to fix the complete f**k-up that Defender is?
Are we supposed to know how we are going to defend our respective systems
form exploit in the absence of any useable tool to do so?

Am I to assume that you dont care what us good folks providing you with bug
help will do now you have what you want from us. ie a LONG list of bugs that
causes our Defender to compeltly f**k-up anytime we try to use it?

Go on Joe, surprise me....

What should I be doing to get Defender to work? Or should I just uninstall
it in favour of a competitive product.

Surprise me by providing a clear factual description of the errors you are
currently seeing--one worthy of your signature.

Hi all,

I should have been more clear - I've verified we have the fix internally,
unfortunately, it is not an engine fix, but it will go out in our next update
of our UI bits.

In the meantime, clicking the normal scan button should workaround just fine.

Sorry for the confusion,
Joe

I can't agree that it's fixed! I installed Windows Defender afew days ago and
and the icon showed up in the task bar. when i opened it, it said it hadn't
run in 4 days and when I clicked "scan now", the error: 0x80004003 invalid
pointer came up. If I click on the scan button at the top menu, it scans OK.

The developers have found the issue and a build with the correction in it
exists. However, there are other factors involved in when that build is
made available to the current users. I don't believe that an update to the
code has yet been made available to beta participants.

So--the announcement isn't erroneous, but neither is your experience.
