error 0175

Hi - I have an IBM thinkpad with XP Pro which was given to
me by my former employer. I try to start it and rather
than getting the login screen I get a DOS looking text
screen that ends with an error message that says

"error 0175: Bad CRC1, stop POST task."

any ideas?

You got what you paid for -- this seems to be the code for a bad
motherboard (although without the model number of the laptop I can't be
