I've been having a problem with the Dell (Canada) website. When I get to
this

page:
http://catalog.dell.com/CS1/cs1page2.aspx?br=7&c=ca&CS=CADHS1&fm=10857&kc=6V413&l=en

and click the "continue" button or the "customize and price" links, I get
"cannot find server" on the next page that opens.

I have tried absolutely everything listed in all the messages through this
forum, including re-registering all those DLL's, verifying the winsock
files, unloading BHO's (flashget and GOOGLE toolbars -- I think the Google
bar caused the problem, because I didn't have a problem with any sites
before I installed the Google bar).

I have Spybot S&D and AdAware and use them regularly, have up-to-date
antivirus software running always, and ZoneAlarm.

There is no malware, scumware or anything (according to Spybot and AdAware).
I turned ZoneAlarm right off thinking it might be the privacy settings in
ZA, and still had the same result. I've checked and unchecked absolutely
all the settings in the Internet Options/Advanced menu that relate to any of
this stuff.

I got the latest Java runtime environment (I know, Java and Javascript are
not the same, but I'm really reaching for anything now!)

Any ideas other than these? Please??

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/nhp/default.asp?contentid=28001169
or
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

(WinXP users who have problems with 2a and 2b, see
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm)

3. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

4. See also
Error Message When You Browse the Web: An Error Has Occurred in the Script
on This Page
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306831

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).

5b. Find the hijacker that caused 5a to be checked (or if none were checked,
check for hijackware anyway):

Thanks for the reply, but all these things are suggested in other messages
in this forum, and I had already tried them all -- most of them twice. Do I
just keep trying them all over again, and hope that it will work at some
point?

Did you update Ad-Aware and Spybot S & D before scanning with them?
Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.

Thanks for the suggestion -- I posted my "hijack this" log in the SWI forums
PC Troubleshooting section, since my problem isn't really urgent. I have
run hijack this before and nothing major popped out at me, but I don't know
what a couple of the things are.
