Hi,
After upgrading my Win OS from XP to XP Pro, I can no longer add these
controls:
combo box, list box, command button, subform/subreport.
Error message says:
Your code contains a syntax erros, or a Microsoft Office Access function yo
need isn't available.
It goes on to give a lengthy explanation, saying if syntax is correct, then
check Control Wizards subkey or the Libraries key in the window Registry..
And, if the entries are correct, you need to correct the Access Utility
Add-in or the acWzlib, .....

I have reinstalled office 2003, twice. Didn't solve the problem.
I have also installed the latest office upgrade after reinstallation. Also
didn't help.

Any clues?
Thanks.
David

My version is Access 2003. In any case, adapting to info I found using the
link you suggested, I've located the access wizard library on the Office 2003
CDROM (called acwzlib), but I don't know what to do with it.
The acwzlib extract to a .mde file which when clicked on, open up in Access.
There I find forms and modules, but no clues what to do with them.

I have made searches on google with keywords similar to "access wizard".
There have been postings for Access 2000, but not much exist for 2003.
Apparently, there are other people experiencing similar type of problems
(i.e. Access wizards) but no resolution.
In one discussion, there is the thought that the problem might be solve if
one could completely uninstall office and then reinstall it.
There are indications (my experience included) that people are having
problems "completely uninstalling" office 2003 or access 2003.
I am still searching google for additional info..
Meanwhile, if anyone has more info, please let me know..
Thanks.

Hi David.

I'm not sure what else to suggest. Presumably you have tried to locate thte
wiz mde on your hard drive. You should have 3 files in your Office11 folder:
- ACWZLIB.MDE
- ACWZMAIN.MDE
- ACWZTOOL.MDE

If the files are there, does it make any difference whether you log into
Windows as an Administrator? Just wondering if there are any permissions
issues that prevent you from using these files.

Hopefully someone else who has experienced the issue will respond also.

Hi Allen,
I have tried many things, in vain.
Non of the wizards work.
The add in Manager is missing.
I have uninstalled office 2003, and then reinstalled.
The problem continues.
Google has some discussion on ACCESS 2002, but not for ACCESS 2003.

Any more ideas?
Thanks.

David

You did not answer the 2 questions: are the 3 files present on your disk,
and are you logged in to Windows with administrative rights?

OOPS! I did checked. The files you mentioned were all there after
reinstalling office, and the problem persists.

BUT GOOD NEWS - I found the solution.
Basically, Jet 4.0 needs to be upgraded to SP8.
And, for anyone upgrading from XP to XP Pro, just need to follow up by
installing SP2. This will automatically upgrade Jet 4.0 to SP8.

The solution is found at:

Thanks for working with me on this, Allen.
