Erase data on CD-RW

I cant seem to erase the data on my CD-RW. I go into my
computer, select the CD ROM drive and usually on the left
of the screen is "erase data on CD-RW" under system
tasks. I dont seem to have this option at the moment.
Ive looked in the help menu but cant find anything. Ive
done it before but dont understand why i cant see the
option to erase everything on the CDRW. Can you please
point me in the correct direction. The options i have
are Eject disk, change settings, add/remove programs,
system info

The native XP CD creation system does not handle CD-RW. You will need to
get another software package that does, like Roxio Easy CD or Nero.

I use the native XP CD system with CD-RW and have erased CDs many times. I
don't know what's wrong though. Make sure the CD in the drive is an RW and
that your're using a CD-RW drive and not just a CD-ROM (some machines have
both). Also make sure it's not hid in any little drop-down arrows in that
pane. Otherwise, perhaps someone else can help you more.

You couldn't be more wrong. XP can handle CDRWs natively, but it
treats them like CDRs - except that you can completely erase them and
then reuse them.

If you are thinking that XP can't use the CDRW like a big floppy disc
with it's native tools, then OK, you would be right.

But that's not what you said, so you are wrong.

CD-Rom drive or CD-RW drive? You cannot use a CD-ROM to erase a disk,
must be a burner drive. And then you must have its properties set:
r-click it in My Computer; Properties, Recording page, make sure 'Enable
recording' is checked. Or use the facility in any third party program
you have installed - eg in Nero under the Recorder menu
