Equations turn into picture

Hi,
I've been using equation editor and Mathtype a lot for my master thesis and
it often happens that the equations are converted into pictures making it
impossible to edit them. This happens after some time of inserting the
equations, as if word wanted to save memory by converting the
long-ago-written-equations into pictures. How can I prevent this from
happening?

I use Windows XP SP2 with all the patches and Word 2003 (11.6359.6408.11).

Thank you

I've been using equation editor and Mathtype a lot for my
master thesis and it often happens that the equations
are converted into pictures making it impossible to
edit them.

We have an article about this on our web site:
<http://www.dessci.com/en/support/tsn/tsn103.htm>. (Note that the
article says it applies to Word 2002, but still applies to Word
2003.) The article may not help, because it deals with an issue
where the equations are converted to pictures after Word crashes.
If this isn't the case with your document, you can try the
procedure in the article anyway, to see if it works. If you're
unable to try what the article suggests, or if you tried it and
it didn't work. let our technical support staff work with you to
find the cause of the problem: (e-mail address removed).
