Epson Stylus R300 vs Stylus Photo 915

Having not long ago bought a Stylus Photo 915, I'm considering whether the
R300 is worth upgrading to.

As far as I can see these are the improvements I would gain...

1. Direct CD printing - in the real world, how useful?

2. Separate ink tanks? At 10.99 GBP each, is that really an improvement over
my 915 when i can get original 5 ink carts for less than £12 GBP...

I'm not even convinced that seperate tanks are that good value for money.
According to the spec sheets for both, my 915 colour cart will do 220 pages
per colour at 5% per colour. The R300 will do 430 pages per colour at 5%.
However, to buy all colours (exc. black) with the R300, you'd need to spend
£54.95.

For that price I could buy 4+ colour carts from 7dayshop.com, giving me a
total of 880 pages -twice as much as the R300.

Besides, the status monitor shows each colour running down at almost the
same rate, blowing into the water the argument that 'you only replace the
colour that has run out'...hmmm, I wonder. I'm gonna open up the next colour
cart that runs out and see just how much ink is left in each well...

3. 3pl droplets as opposed to 4pl - that noticeable at more than arms
length?

Finally, my apologies for posting this twice, but stupidly forgot to include
Epson in the subject first time around.

I have just purchased an Epson R300 and am very happy with the photo
copies. BUT, I have been printing mostly (90%) black and white text
and the cartridge monitor is dropping the color cartriges at the same
rate as the black cartridge. I have had an email response from Epson
that was of no help. I also can get no good answer from Comp USA. I
have about 2 weeks to take it back, which I may do. Has anyone
experienced this problem after the using up the cartridges that come
with the unit and replacing them with new ones. What printer would
you recommend. The cost of replacing all six cartridges every time
is rediculus.
Thanks

Your first set of cartridges are no indication of future ink usage. The
first set goes down quickly because it must prime the system. Typically you
use 2-3 color cartridges to every one black.
