Epson Stylus CX4800

I don't know whether to post this question in a scanners group or a
printers group.

I just purchased an Epson Stylus CX4800 combination printer and
scanner. I was right in the middle of a major project when my old
printer crapped out, and the CX4800 was the best buy at the nearest
store.

I'm scanning old photographs and working with them in Adobe's
Photoshop 7. The preferred Adobe format is .psd. The CX4800 will not
save scans in .psd. It will save in several formats, including .pdf,
but not .psd. I'm using .tif instead, but would rather scan direct to
..psd. My previous older Microtec scanner saved to .psd.

Is there something I'm missing?

Wouldn't you know, by the way, that I had just installed brand-new ink
cartridges in my old C80 Epson? Not compatible, of course, with the
CX4800. I lost more money in ink than the new printer cost
(considering the rebate and gift card that came with the new printer)

Does the scanner support TWAIN? SOme new ones don't. Photoshop is a
TWAIN implemented program so it can directly load any scan from a TWAIN
compatible scanner right into the program, and since Photoshop used .psd
natively, the file is in that format (actually, .psd is a storage
format. The image is in a bitmap form on the screen, and it becomes
..psd once it is saved.

Evidently, it does. I just tried importing the scan directly from
Photoshop rather than using the Espson scanner program. This allows
me to save the file as a .psd file. Problem solved.
