Epson Smart Panel does not recognize TWAIN 1.25A

C

Cindy

Using Epson 2400 on Win XP.
Have Smart Panel working with TWAIN driver 5.71A.

When I uninstall the TWAIN 5.71A and try to install "TWAIN Driver and Epson
Scan Utility v 1.25A" I find that programs like Photoshop recognize the
scanner. But when I try to launch programs with the Epson Smart Panel (v.
2.5A) I get message that says:
"Please install the supported TWAIN driver"

Have tried uninstalling Smart Panel and deleteting the c:\program
files\epson directory and resinstalling Smart Panel software, but get same
results.

Any ideas on how to get Smart Panel to see TWAIN/Scan Utility 1.25A? The
1.25A is a newer TWAIN and has additional features that 5.71A does not have.

Thanks

Are you sure that you cannot install both TWAINs simultaneously? It
doesn't really solve your problem, but I do not believe that TWAINs are
mutually exclusive. Secondly, SmartPanel is not an Epson product, and
the Epson Utility might well be written to be exclusive to the included
TWAIN as well as to the scanners for which it is offered, including your
2400. SmartPanel claims to be compatible with any TWAIN, but the Epson
Utility/TWAIN might not be. It is not compatible with my 1660 scanner
(or so says Epson), for example. The fact of the error message suggest
that the new TWAIN is exclusive to the Utility.

Thanks for response. I tried having both TWAINS on (both downloaded from
Epson site). Installed with scanner not attached.
When I try to use Smart Panel it gives a message saying basically that some
other program is using the scanner.

The NewSoft site says that problem can be solved by reinstalling the
SmartPanel. I have a hard drive that had nothing (scannerwise) on it, did
an install of the 1.25A TWAIN and the SmartPanel - fresh install. Rebooted
and connected the Epson 2400. -Same result. Programs can use the scanner
but not the programs in Smart Panel. Get the same message: "Please install
the supported TWAIN driver".
Anything else to try?

Cindy,

Have you followed all the steps on the Newsoft site -- 'Error "Please
install supported Twain driver" while launching Smart Panel on Windows'?
They have several steps under "Additional Information."

Thanks for reply...yes, have tried that -That seems to be referring to a
problem with the older TWAIN 5.- .

I have tried installing to a fresh install...no TWAIN etc. When I install
1.25A and install SmartPanel, I get the error message.

Following the above message, I have tried installing both TWAINS -the
newest version of 5 and 1.25a. With that combination, my scanner using
applications allow me a choice of TWAINS and both seem to work. With Smart
Panel however, I see only TWAIN 5, and when I attempt to use it, it gives an
error message about the TWAIN already being in use by another program.

Cindy,

Have no problem with my 3200, Epson Scan 1.25A, and SmartPanel.

Below is a thorough procedure from the Newsoft site on removing and
reinstalling both programs (including the Note about Windows XP SP 1 at
the bottom).

If these steps don't do it, try e-mailing Newsoft's Tech Support.

Therefore, please confirm the following procedure:
1. Login Windows XP with an user account which you have installed Smart
Panel previously.

2. Unplug the USB cable from the scanner in advance and close all
running programs. This includes virus protection, screen savers, and
other software that may be running in the background. This is to avoid
the possible conflicts with other software.

3. Download the file DelReg25.exe, you can get this file from the
following link:

4. Remove anyone of the listed programs from add/remove programs.
a. Epson Twain 5 or EpsonScan
Note: Please do not reboot until the step5 is finished
b. Epson Smart Panel
c. Epson PhotoPrint
d. Epson Copy utility
e. Epson Scanner reference Guide
f. Arcsoft PhotoImpression [Some of the original software may not
present this item]
g. Scan to Web
h. Presto! PixExpress
Note: If you can not remove one of them successfully, simply skip it and
then go next.

5. Please delete the following folders:
a. EPFB5 folder, under C:\windows\twain_32\
b. Epson folder, under C:\Program Files\ [or C:\]
Note: If you have Epson printer, and the printer does not work properly
after the installation please reinstall the printer driver.

6. Double Click DelReg2.5.exe and it will remove Smart Panel settings
from System Register automatically.

7. Reboot the system.

8. Reinstall Epson Smart Panel. Regarding the twain driver, you need to
get the latest supported twain driver from Epson website.

9. Log on as another user.

10. Start using Smart Panel.

Note: According to reinstall the Smart Panel on Windows XP Service Pack
1, you need to click Here to get a fully solution about the installation.

Thanks for the info..could you tell me which version of SmartPanel you are
using with your 3200? (I'm using 2.5A)

I did email Newsoft at the beginning of this process, but never got a
response from them.
