It just so happens that I took a course about this just this past week and
the statement that is made is that "HP printers are designed to use HP
papers for optimum print quality and longitivity." The HP papers are
actually made up of 6 layers. Those layers have individual functions and
one of them is actually that each layer stops a certain color from bleeding
lower into the other layers. Such as Red that might be at layer 2 and
Yellow at 3 and so on. The actual top layers of the paper are what they use
for the fade resistance. The same holds true when you use HP inks. This is
not just a marketing scheme for ensuring HP only products but actually
benefits the customer for the length of time the prints are useful.
So, the answer is sure that paper will work but do you really want those
prints to last ? If so, then you want to use HP products only. If you
don't care then well, that's up to you. I would care. Sure, I've bought
Imation paper in the past and I still have the prints around but how long
will they last ? No one knows. Remember, with HP Premium + paper and the
58 Photo cartridge this printer is rated (by Wilheim research) to last 73
years. (sure under glass etc..) And if you buy a new HP printer (8150 or
8450 ) with the new dye based inks then they are rated to last 114yrs.
