Epson LQ800 printer's two 8-toggle inline switches? ??

I've acquired an old Epson LQ800 printer that could prove good for
some work I want to do. It has two inline 8-toggle switches reached
through an opening in its back. I've been looking for a manual and I
find all sorts of speculative rubbish and nothing I can use. Can
someone tell me what those 16 setup switches do?
