epson color 880 installation problem

i just upgraded to win xp proffessional. i have a Compaq
6550. for some reason the printer will not install from
epson install disk. message i get is to check cables and
connections. i tried downloading drivers for xp, but,
nothing i do works. help
 
When you say "tried" was the download successful? Your installation disk probably
doesn't have XP drivers.

Once you have completely uninstalled the old driver, install your printer with the XP
driver you downloaded from Epson.
