Epson 836XL Scanner

I just got one free. I have down loaded the driver and scan software
from Epson. I hooked it up to LPT1 in windows 98. It did not work.
The software said that the driver was not installed. I have two
questions.
1. I planned on using the scanner for general photo and graphics
scanning. Is it worth the effort to get this scanning working?

2. I have a SCSI board. Would it be easier to get it to work with
scsi?

3. Should I down load a trial of Viewscan and see if I can get windows
to reconize the scanner? If I use view scan do I also need to install
the epson driver?

anybody got any opinions?

thanks tom

If i remember correctly, that was a decent scanner. FOr reflective media
it should be fine. i would try the scsi route, it should be
significantly faster. Vuescan does not depend on the epson driver at
all. It will want to find the scsi interface i suspect. Make sure the
scanner is on Ed's supported list, the current aspi layer for scsi under
win98 is installed correctly (use aspichk). Get the scsi card working
first, then install the scanner (uninstall the epson drivers first!) and
then vuescan.
