Epson 4870 vs. 2450 - the verdict

It looks like the 4870 I tried out was not a "dog" after all. My experience
was the same as Ralf's. I actually thought the new scanner was a little
worse at 2400 dpi. Took it back next day

Because each CCD has an individual lens, the quality of that lens is
very important. It's quite possible to have 4800 pixels but a lens
resolution that is much lower. A constant frustration has been a pixel
shift between the RGB layers caused by the chromatic abberation of the
lens array

I wonder how the 3170 compares to the 2450 as an alternative..
