Epson 4490 - copy to fax too long

Using Epson's (v. 3.17 under winXP pro) copy utility to send a fax, it took
more than two minutes per page (simple b&w text) to scan and print to fax.
When I used a b&w document scan and then faxed it off the fax console
myself, it took 20 seconds per page in total. Does Epson software suck or
something else? I downloaded the latest driver of Epson's site.

Initially I thought it was because of my USB 1.1. BTW, I read somewhere that
hi-speed USB improvement in speed is nowhere near the nominal factor of 40X.
Just wondering what kind of speed increase have other people seen,
particularly in lengthy scans, 35mm films, high dpi photos and such...

Maybe you scanned at too high resolution, Fax is 200 dpi. Fax is also B&W
only no gray scale or color.

There are Fax compression formats that are much smaller file size than Tif
or Gif or BMP.

FYI: Epson's Copy Utility has only two resolutions for Fax - Normal at
200x200, and Draft at 200x100. I used the Draft to minimize the time, still
the same result. Once again, when I scanned the B&W document and then faxed
it from the Fax Console, the total per-page time was shorter by a factor of
6 (20 seconds vs. 2+ minutes).
