Epson 1290 prints muddy images

Does anyone know how to configure PhotoQuicker 3.2.to give quality prints.
No matter what configuration/settings I set the Epson 1290 to I get dark
hair printing muddy brown & output with very low resolution and rough print
edges.
I have no problems printing from Photoshop.
I run Win 2000 OS with printer attached through USB 2

Well, obviously PQ doesn't send the right data to the
printer. The printer does _not_ compensate for bad colour
choices by the software, for example. Nor should it. It
should print what it's told to print. Which is exactly what
it's doing.

If PQ has no menu choices in its Print menu for setting
things such as resolution (dpi), colour balance, or dither,
I would say that it has hard-coded printer settings, and
you can't do anything about it. (You should see a menu
choice such as "job properties" in the Print menu. That tab
should give you a number of options.)

You may be able to play around with the displayed colours.
Generally speaking, there will always be a difference
between what the monitor shows and what the printer prints,
so you might find some monitor settings that may look
"wrong" but give you acceptable prints. Personally, I
wouldn't even bother -- there is no guarantee that how much
you distort the yellow in one print will be a guide to
distorting the yellow in another, for example.

Unless the software has features you absolutely have to
have, I'd advise junking it.

Sorry. :)
