Envelope default settings

My edition of Word 2003 comes with a factory default setting for envelope
recipient addresses near the bottom right of the envelope. This is US
practice, but it isn't UK practice. I want to change the default seting so
that the address will appear in the standard UK position, which is further to
the left. I know I can change it manually, but I would rather change the
default so I don't have to alter it every time I create an envelope. How do
I do this, please?

Hi Jonathan,

The position of the address is controlled by the Envelope Address
style.

Display the Styles & Formatting task pane. At the bottom, select "All
styles" in the Show dropdown. Find Envelope Address in the list
(because it's shifted to the right, all you'll see is "En" between the
Emphasis style and the Envelope Return style). Click the down arrow to
its right, and select Modify.

In the dialog, check the "Add to template" box so the change will be
saved in Normal.dot. Then click the Format button and choose
Paragraph.

In the next dialog, change the left indent from the default value of
2" to whatever suits you. (The style also includes a frame that's
centered on the page, and you could change that setting instead or in
addition.)

Click OK in both dialogs. When you exit Word, if you're prompted to
save Normal.dot, say yes.
