Enter System Date

Is there a keybaord command to enter system date? Like in MS Excel CTRL-COLON enters the date automatically.

No, but it is simple enough to add your own, using tools > customize >
commands > keyboard > insert > insertdatetime, which inserts the date in the
default format set in insert > date.

But note that this inserts a DATE field that will update every time you open
the document. If you want a snapshot, select the field immediately upon
insertion and press Ctrl+Shift+F9 to unlink it.

Also, in order to include the time along with the date, you must have this
format selected in Control Panel | Regional Options | Date, which might not
be practical. Instead, you might want to construct a DATE field with the
appropriate time/date format switch and save it as an AutoText entry. For

This AutoText entry would still insert an updatable field, so you would need
to unlink it with Ctrl+Shift+F9.
