Enlarging windows

I recently purchased a new widescreen monitor which has caused me to increase
my computer's resolution. I have been able to adjust icon and font size to a
level that is comfortable for my eyes but is there anything I can do to
increase the size of the window XP brings up for games such as Hearts,
Solitaire, etc. that came apart of the XP operating system?

Two things I know of are to drag the edges of the window to the size you want,
however I haven't had it stick after closing, it reopens to the original size.
and
In Program Files right click the icon of the game, click properties, change Run: to
maximized and it will open full screen.
