Enlarged Desktop Causes Appearance Problems (also contains ? on WM

Hi guys, please excuse this if it's posted in an incorrect area, but I really
am tired (it's almost 1:30 AM).

I am partially blind but I can use normal software if it is slightly
enlarged (13-14 usually works fine). I recently enlarged my desktop from
800x600 to 1024x768, and had to rework all of the appearance options to get
font large enough for me. However, there are some things, like the Windows
message boxes such as error messages, that I can't seem to get enlarged. Some
of the dialogue boxes I did manage to enlarge but I can't figure out how to
enlarge the rest. My AIM conversations also appear tiny. It has a zoom
feature but it is either too small at 133% or too big at 200%. I'm typing
this using the magnifier that someone got for me in the event that I would
need it, because for some reason after I downloaded and installed Internet
Explorer 7, the print on the Internet became smaller as well, even when set
to Largest like I always set it at. In fact sometimes it switches
automatically from Largest to Medium without me changing it. Anyway, this
magnifier I'm using (located in the Start Menu, Programs, Accessibility,
Magnifier) doesn't cover the entire screen, just the top third, and it's
inconvenient to keep moving the mouse around and then using the keyboard to
keep scrolling when, before I enlarged my desktop, I could manage without the
magnification. Should I simply put the desktop back to 800x600?

Also the top bars on the Internet browser are very confusing in their
placement. I miss my menus that I used to use for Favorites, View, etc, and
the icons are so tiny it took me a half hour to find the Back and Forward
buttons. Of course the colors don't help either. How do I customize this?
Unfortunately I'm new to IE7 as I just downloaded it a little more than an
hour ago.

Oh, while I'm at it, sorry to bring up so many issues, but I wonder does
Windows Media Player play mp4 files? And also there are some mpeg files that
I have that will play in Realplayer just like the mp4s but they don't play in
WMP. I thought it was because I only had WMP9 so I downloaded 10, and I don't
notice a difference. Are there codecs I need to download or something? Can
someone give me a link to them?

Thanks very much, I appreciate it,
angie

Go to :
Control Options > Display properties > Appearance tab > Click Advanced button
There are lots of thing. If you set them correctly, everything will be as you
like...

For the Internet issue, you can do this (At least in IE6) :
Go to Internet Options > Click "Accessibility" > Tick "Ignore font sizes specified on
web page"

Sorry, I already did that. Both of those steps were taken and there's still
issues, that's why I posted here. I do appreciate your effort though.

Unless you get a much larger monitor, 19", or perhaps 21-23", I suspect
you'll have to go back to the 800x600 screen resolution. When you
increase the text sizes on some windows, the text simply won't fit in
the box anymore; few windows will resize accordingly.

Thanks, my monitor is already 24". I'm definitely switching back. Hopefully
that will solve the blasted internet icon problem too.
