I'm amazed at what paying customers will put up with so that someone else
can get rich.

I'm not. You can bet MS & the others like them are banking on it.
The thought that Microsoft can degrade your PC, essentially, whenever they
want is frightening.

Yes, it is. However, I will be watching what happens with HastaLaVista
from XP. No way will I pay money for Vista if I'm going to have to
continually jump through hoops, download the new hoop that was made to
counteract the crack for the previous hoop, ad nausea. If we're lucky,
HastaLaVista won't be the hit MS thinks it will be.

The only thing here is that they're probably going to try to make it a hit
by pre-loading it on almost every new computer from here to Timbuktu by
striking all of their deals with the other major corporations. So when that
happens, if someone doesn't want Vista, but wants to buy a new computer
they'll have to either buy one with Vista on it and then buy XP to load on
it, or buy a barebones system and then buy XP to load on it.

Or insist to Dell, HP, et al, to sell them one with XP on it. If anyone
asks me, I tell them to build a white box. There are many stores here
that will do just that for you. Maybe white boxes are finally catching
on :-)

No one is forcing you to upgrade to vista.

I, on the otherhand might, but I'm in no hurry.

Sad, isn't it?

Right. Remember what Monopolysoft said about PA when XP first came out?
Everyone asked 'How do we know that MS won't just turn off PA so then
none of us can activate our XP therefore no being able to use it
anymore?' MS said (with it's fingers crossed behind it's back) Oh,
we'll just make a patch to disable PA. We won't turn it off on you.'
Now they simply have more than one tool to turn it off with. WGA and PA.

Yep!

Then don't use Microsoft Windows. No one is forcing you to.

Stop changing the subject. What is your opinion of the kill switch to be
bundled with HastaLaVista?

Maybe that is why Apple is already seeing an increase in demand for
Macintosh computers!
