Endless Loop in Boot process

Hello:

1) I noticed recently that my iTunes program was not recognizing my cd-rom drive, so I killed
and restarted the program, no change.

2) Figured I needed to reboot, now boot process will not finish - seems to recognize all devices
and makes it without any error messages to the w2k loading screen with status bar, then
the screen flashes a quick error/blue screen (unstopable to view except for the words
'exception' and 'address') and returns to the beginning of the boot process.

3) I have a w2k cd and a erd, so I have tried running the repair, it completes without error and
says w2k has been repaired, I remove the floppy and cd, but get the same error at the same
spot in the boot process.

4) I am unable to get past this point regardless of boot type choosen, i.e. I never successfully get
to Safe Mode.

5) No recent updates, and I shutdown my computer nightly, so I have been rebooting once a day
for sometime without problem, but I have always gotten/seen the error "invalid boot.ini, booting from c:\winnt, etc...yet never concerned myself with it because the system would always boot.

Have done my best to read this informative group to get me this far, but unfortunately, still stuck...suppose I can redo w2k, but don't get the feeling that will solve the problem based on
other posts...

Next steps?

Thanks to all,

Ken

Did you try recovery console?
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/Q229/7/16.ASP&NoWebContent=1

If you can get in to this check minidump
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q315263

If you still cannnot boot, install windows 2000 on another directory if you have disk space.
then you can check minidump.

another way to you can try too boot,
make your PC boot with minimum component.
(no NIC, no Modem, no Extra Hardware, if you have multiple memory on bank try
boot with single memory module,)

by the way did you try virus scan?
