End Show fails: Can I Create an EXIT Button, Action or Hyperlink?

I packaged my 2003 PPT to a CD with an Exit (End Show Hyperlink/Action) Button.

When building the PPT, and viewing the show the button works and brings me
back to PowerPoint.

When CD Packaged, it fails to close the PPT.

My PPT hasa a website like Home page and menu linking to several Cutom Slide
Shows. I removed the Exit button from each Custom Slide show because all it
would do is end the Custom Show and return the user to the Home screen.

And once at the Home screen the Exit button does nothing!

My goal is to have a button on every screen in as many slides as I want
(especially the Home screen) that will allow the CD users to CLOSE the PPT
and return them to their desktop.

Try this...

In your presentation create an action shape from Autoshapes ==> Action
buttons.
I would choose the first (blank) button.

After you make an action shape, you will get Action Settings dialog box
automatically.

Select the radio button "Hyderlink to:"

Select End Show in the Drop Down menu.

You can give the text to that blank button like "X" or "Exit". Save your
presentation as PPS.

While running PPS if anyone clicks this button the show ends taking them to
their desktop. While working in powerpoint and choose slideshow, clicking
this button goes back to powerpoint file.

I would work like this...if there is any other alternative by anyone, that
will be appreciated.

That does sound odd, and of interest to me since I'm planning the same thing.
I, too, have been designing Exit buttons of the kind described and they seem
to be working in both PPT XP and Viewer 2003.

When you say "packaged my 2003 PPT to a CD", do mean "pack and go"? Is it
running from a viewer? Is it possible that you do not have the most recent
version of the viewer and this is a problem?

I'd like to see more on this and perhaps a response to similar issues raised
at this link:

Oh, one other thing to check (this one got me too).

Cribbing from a post by Sonia elsewhere, if a button is just an outline and
has no fill, the Viewer will have a problem with the link. If you select the
button and then apply a fill color, the link will then work in the Viewer. If
you don't want your button to have any color, you can assign a color and then
set it to 100% transparency (PowerPoint 2002 or 2003).

But (I believe) the Viewer has trouble with 100% transparency. I'd set it to
99% to be on the safe side.

"Package for CD" is the PPT 2003 answer to "Pack and Go." It's much better,
though, as it packs the 2003 Viewer (Pack and Go uses the 97 Viewer) and
doesn't create two files, requiring the user to unpack on the other end.

Are you distributing your show as a PPT or PPS file?
Sounds like the former.
Sounds like you need the latter.
