End of message problem

Dr. Indera

hello,

i have a problem with word 2003. when i end a sentence with a number and
type a period and hit the space bar, i expect the first letter of the new
sentence to automatically be capitalized like the other sentences are, yet
this doesn't happen.

for example, if my sentence ends with figure 2-5. the "t" is this word
should be a capital letter, but it isn't. In this sentence it is.

is there a fix for this or an option that i need to change, as it's really
getting on my nerves <smile>.

thank you.

Well, you didn't see MS call it a "bug," did you? They claim it is by
design; unfortunately, the design got out of hand (it was intended just for
numbered lists, which some people don't want capitalized) but spilled over
into regular paragraph text. I don't know of anyone who doesn't find it
annoying, but that's just a symptom of how spoiled we've become. The
"workaround" is to get up off our lazy butts and use one of the two
convenient Shift keys. <g>

LOL suzanne,

yes, you are right. they didn't call it a bug, but i do.
i don't think that's being lazy, just lack of consistency <smile>.

i have tried to use features like numbered lists and the feature that would
renumber the figure numbers in a technical document <i think it's called
caption>,
but for whatever reason, i could never get it to work,
so i switched to framemaker for users guides.
it took a while to learn, but the features i need the most, actually work in
framemaker - go figure!
