I have just installed Britannica DVD 2006 and Universalis 6 (more or
less the French equivalent) on CD-Rom and both seem to suffer a similar
fault: they install OK, as far as I can see but, when I launch them,
nothing is displayed. In the case of Universalis, the Task Manager
says that it is 'running' (I have uninstalled Britannica for the time
being, so am not sure whether this is exactly the same.) I USED to be
able to run Universalis and Britannica 98 (i.e. much older version)
reasonably fine: the problems have started since I tried to install
the new Britannica - I had more than one go at this and I suspect I
have messed something up. When I tried to run System Restore (possibly
not a solution, anyway), I found I couldn't restore to a date prior to
my attemptto install the new Britannica. I would be really grateful
for any pointers - an especially grateful to anyone who could kindly
email me directly.
With thanks for reading this.

Is your graphics card supported by the software? Does it need specific
resolutions/colour depths- have you set them?

Sorry to be so dim, but I'm pretty sure it is: the PC is new and
reasonably good and, most of all, Universalis and (the old (1998)
version of) Britannica worked fine until I clearly messed up the
installation a week ago.
Thanks for your help
Paul
