Encrypted Offline Folders

I'm having trouble setting up offline folders with encryption under WinXP.
I've followed the guidance provided here:

but when I try to synchronise I get "Access denied" errors - the folder
structure is setup ok, the files are not copied over.

The user has administrator-level privileges on the PC (not the domain) and
is the owner of the files.

I can successfully synchronise offline folders without encryption but as
soon as I turn on encryption, the problem re-occurs.

The servers I'm synchornising from are Server 2k3. The folders are in
"standard" shares.

Is there any other requirement / action I need to do?
