Encryped Files

My computer recently bit the dust, but I was able to salvage the Hard Drive.
I have some files on the HD there were encrypted that I need to retrieve. I
have tried installing the HD into a couple of other computers and been
unable to boot with it. However, I can install it as a slave device. Does
anyone have any idea how I would be able to recover these encrypted files in
this situation. I now know that I needed to have some keys backed up but I
didn't. But I think since the actual Hard Drive is unchanged I may still be
able to recover the files. Any help that can be provided would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Win XP can traverse thru multiple drives, simply copy- paste these files to
your your boot drive with win xp on it from the disk drive with encrypted
files and then unincrypt them.

And just how the f*&# is he supposed to "unincrypt" them
without the encryption key, genius? The OP is SOL without
the key. What good would encryption be if anyone could
access the files?

That is like telling someone "Sneak into the bank at night and grab
the money...easy"
But you did not mention the combination to the vault or the time lock.

You know about as much about encryption as the original poster, which is not
much!

Without the encryption key, those files are unusable - forever! They can now
be deleted from the hard drive.

I am sorry but if you encrypt files you *must* back up those keys
('certificates') securely off the machine. Without them the files are
utterly irretrievable. That encryption is top level.
