Enable VGA Mode

Hi,

I've recently replaced a faulty power supply in a box running Windows XP
Home. That has gone well enough, but I'm running into a problem, I
suspect, because I'm using a different (smaller) monitor than was
previously hooked up to the system.

I can boot well enough in safe mode, or "Enable VGA Mode," but will lose
my video signal (so says the monitor) when booting normally. My best
guess is that my monitor can't handle the configuration used on the
earlier monitor.

Finally my question: How can I change the video settings during one of
these safe boots, such that it will affect the normal mode boot?

Thanks for your time and consideration.
