Hello,

Is there anyone who knows to enable the quick launch bar
in Windows XP Pro by default of GroupPolicy?
I'm using Windows XP in a Windows 2000 ADS and users use
the quick launch very often, but I can't initiate it when
a users first logs on. Is there a registry entry, vbs of
GPO which can do the trick?

Hi Rich,

I have been working on this, drop me a line toward the end of the week.
Good luck in the meantime.

Kelly:

Doesn't the Admin template file from XP cover that??
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/techinfo/administration/policy/managing.asp
"In order to manage Windows XP clients, administrators need a computer
running Windows XP, which comes with updated Administrative Template files
(.adm). These are the files that provide policy information for items that
are under the Administrative Templates folder in the console tree of the
Group Policy snap-in..."

TIA

Hi Kelly,

I've been also working on this, but none of the registry
values I've used could change setting to show the quick
launch.
Historical Microsoft began to use the quick launch with IE
4, but nowerdays the so called 'Active Desktop' is
intergrated into the explorer.exe shell. For these reasons
I asume that there are a view regkey's to be set, but
Microsoft is very silent when it come's to quick launch
settings, it almost seems that they have the same problem.
If you've any setting that can enabled it please let me
know.

All the best,

Rich

Hi Rich,

True, true and I will do.

In building my latest app with includes Quick Launch:

I did spend a bit of time working in that area. I have a couple of untested
exports for .Default/HKEY_USERS that I still need to test.

I will be putting another focus on it in the next couple of days. Keep me
posted in the meantime and good luck. :o)

Hello TIA,

Nope it there is no option in ADM-files, there are some
options about the taskbar but none for the quick launch.
ADM-files are nothing more then GUI-version of registry
enteries.
Sadely Microsoft doens't include quick launch options in
ADM-form. But it would be enough that someone knows the
right registry enteries.
You can create your own ADM-files and add them the a MMC-
snapin, there are some free tools who can create ADM-files
from reg-files.

Greetings,
Rich

I checked the domain GPO in SBS2k3 (Win2k3 server family), and it does not
have it either.
Interesting.
