empty winnt folder

L

larry

This is my problem

1. Started my computer
2. Went on line
3. Signed on to eBay
4. Signed on to PayPal and paid for and eBay auction
5. Performed a proper Shut down

Next day

1. Started the computer
2. Start up proceeds to the "Microsoft Windows 2000
Pro Starting" screen
3. After the progress indicator goes to 100% the blue
screen flashes an error message, so fast that the message
cannot be read, and then reboots

The problem seems to be files missing from the winnt
folder. The only thing in the winnt folder is the system32
folder, which contains only msconfig.exe

All windows updates are current and all virus definition
files are current.

1. What emptied the winnt folder?
2. How do I fix this?
3. How do I make sure it doesn't happen again?

| 1. What emptied the winnt folder?
* Hard to say but you may want to download a utility from the drive
manufacturer to run diagnostics the drive.

| 2. How do I fix this?
* Start a new install.

| 3. How do I make sure it doesn't happen again?
* See 1

Also there is no msconfig in Windows 2000
