Empty Device Manager-clicking ENUM reboots PC

I'm dealing with an empty Device Manager. I've found support forums on the
net, and they describe a process editing the Registry, something to do with
ENUM.

When I get to where they show me in the registry, when I click on ENUM, the
computer automatically reboots.

Is this a virus? Please help! Thank you...

This sounds like a corrupted registry.
Your best bet is to do a System Restore from a time before you
experienced this problem.

I'm not a fan of System Restore, and so I keep it shut off.

Is there a way to recreate a registry?

Any possibilities at all? Replace files manually from the windows CD?

I can do a backup of my data and reformat, but what a pain that is.

That's what System Restore does.... periodically backs up your registry
for just this eventuality. If you weren't a fan before, you may be
now. The registry contains preferences that are specific to your
computer and the software and hardware installed on it so you won't be
able to get it from a windows CD.

All you can do now is back up what you can from your hard drive and re-
install Windows.
