Several attachments with .EML extensions have recently appeared from trusted
correspondants but I've not been able to open them. If anyone can help I
shall be most grateful. I'm running XP Home.

Do a Shift-Right click on the .EML file and then choose 'Open With' and
choose Outlook Express (msimn.exe) as the program to open it with and see
if that fixes it.

Files with the .eml extension should be opened by Outlook Express (and also
Outlook (?)). Is neither of them installed on your system?

..eml files open with Outlook Express unless you have installed another
E-mail program.

[[Note: .EML files are used by other E-mail clients as well. Note: .EML
files with "funny" names in multiple folders implies the Nimda worm. OE
removes access to attachments using this file extension. However, using
forward on the tool bar in OE the attachment shows as an envelope that if
clicked opens the attachment (use caution if you do this, it could be a
worm). Note: This file type can become infected and should be carefully
scanned if someone sends you a file with this extension.]]

Thank you everyone! I have both Outlook and Outlook Express installed.
I've altered the association in Folders Options and I'm hoping for the best.
I really am very grateful. I just wonder how the original set up got
corrupted but I'm not about to worry too much about it! Thanks again.
