Embedded tiff files

Please help this is evidently a Microsoft glitch. You can
open tiff files in XP OS but as soon as you embed the tiff
file in a document in XP OS it will not open. This does
work correctly in Windows 2000. I want to be clear as I
got several responses before about opening tiff files and
I appreciated it but that is not the issue. You can open
tiff files in XP it is only when they are embedded in
another document that they will not open in XP.

Thank you,
Maueen

If you embed a TIFF in a document then the program associated with the document is the
program that opens the graphic - not the OS. For example if you embed a TIFF in MS Word
then MS Word must open the TIFF.

Nothing changed on any of the PC's except for being
upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Office remained
the same Office 2000. If you send an attachment with an
embedded tiff file to a PC upgraded to windows xp with
office 2000 it will not open. IF you send the same
attachment to a PC still using the original Windows 2000
office 2000 setup it opens correctly. The only thing that
changed was the OS.....

You are coming to a false conclusion. You NEVER upgrade one OS to another OS insitu because
of the problems that occur. You should always backup data and perform a clean install.

Before making a conclusion as you have, install WinXP cleanly then the FULL Office 2K and
then test you assumption.

Although many people will tell you that formatting and installing
cleanly is the best way to go, I disagree. Unlike with previous
versions of Windows, and upgrade to XP replaces almost
everything, and usually works very well.

My recommendation is to at least try the upgrade, since it's much
easier than a clean installation. You can always change your mind
and reinstall cleanly if problems develop.

However, don't assume that doing an upgrade relieves you of the
need to backup your data, etc. before beginning. Before starting
to upgrade, it's always prudent to recognize that things like a
sudden power loss can occur in eth middle of it and cause the
loss of everything. For that reason you should make sure you have
backups and anything else you need to reinstall if the worst
happens.
