Do you mean load as in automatically start playing? If you put a 5 meg file
on your site people aren't going to want to wait for it to load. You should
just make a link to it or give the people the option to start playing it.
Also, if it's an MP3 file you should really cut it down. What Bit Rate are
you saving it as? I wouldn't go higher than 128 or 192. Especially if it's
for a web site. You could even go lower and still get ok sound. You'd only
rip it higher if you wanted to burn it to a CD or something.

Any auto-play audio should be limited to no more than one bit,
preferably less.

Any user controlled/downloadable audio, the sky is the limit. Just be
sure to note the file size for the user.

You could make it a Real Audio file and use HTTP streaming, especially if
the file is large, and the user won't have to wait for a download. The use
will have to have Real Player on their computer, which most people have; but
you need to put a link to the Real Player download page so they can easily
get the player.

Why do you think most people have Real Player installed? Windows user have Windows Media Player.
