Embedded MP3 file stops

I have a 30 second MP3 file embedded in a PowerPoint 2002 presentation. The
custom animation feature starts the sound file fine (following a text
animation) but the sound file halts after 16 seconds. The MP3 works fine
outside of PowerPoint. The file is only 297K and I set the limit to 512K. Any
suggestions?

You can't embed mp3, only wav. If you did like to embed your song, you will
need to convert it into wav format.

As for halting, does it halt when the slideshow advance to the next slide?
Right click on the play effect, click effect options. Under Stop playing,
set to After 999 slides and see if it works.
Also, check whether you have added any stop effect in the custom animation.
