"Embedded" Motherboards

Hello,

I've heard that there are certain processors and motherboards that are
"embedded." Embedded in this sense means that are produced for long
periods of time for individuals (such as myself) that are designing
systems around them. We are going to build an XP embedded system that
requires 2 64 bit PCI slots. Whether the processor is a Xeon or
straight P4 is irrelevant. I have been unsuccessful in finding an
embedded motherboard that meets our requirements. Any suggestions from
the community? Thanks in advance.

Send an email to me and I'll have one of our Systems Engineers contact you.
We deal with a variety of vendors with long life boards, once we know your
specific requirements, hopefully we can match a vendor/product.

Hi Gordon,

You want to say that there can be found MB intended for embedded systems
based on latest chipsets like Intel 875?
Are you sure? This is good news to me.
When we complete development (eventually we will), I'll try remembering to
contact you for more info.

Best regards,
Slobodan

We deal with vendors who do specialize in long life boards especially for
the embedded market. I believe one of them recently introduced a 875, but
I'd have to check. I'm really "the software guy" who happens to be nearby
when the "hardware guys" are chatting.

Even though I try my best not to, I'm learning a lot about hardware. ;-)
Our Systems Engineers though know the hardware side very well.

BTW. It's usually best if you contact us much much earlier than "When we
complete development" because some decisions may be impracticle to change at
that point.

I know, but in our particular case we have strict minimum requirements that
hardware must support. And they are in no way minimal :(
So if platform embedded or not, can satisfy all of them, we are ok.
We are working on this project over a year now, some of us in two shifts.
There are lot of features remained that we must implement until finally we
chose hardware.

Desktop PC hardware just recently reached our minimum requirements, and
probably we will wait to use PCI Express when it becomes available.

I was just curious to hear that there are some embedded platforms that we
could actually use, when it is all over.

Don't worry configuring XPE is the easiest part of all :)

Thanks again,
Slobodan Brcin
