EMBED shows in display rather than link

anytime I link something to my word documents the link does not show - only a
statement like {EMBED Powerpoint.slide.8} rather than the slide. If I go to
print preview the slide is there and it will print - but does not show in
Normal View, Outline View or Print View. I tried ALT+F9 but all it did was
show me a blank picture. The same thing occurs if I try to link from Excel to
Word. Any thoughts?

Hi,

Make sure 'Picture placeholders' and 'Field codes' are both unchecked,
under Tools|Options|View
