Emails stay in outbox and never send

I have noticed this begin to happen occassionally.. I
create an email, click send... it goes to myoutbox and
never leaves. I can for the send/receive a zillion times
and it never leaves. The addressee name never converts to
italics like normal once they are moved int othe outbox.
The email address is good, and I am not in offline
mode... and again - not all emails, only some... what
gves? the only way I can make them go it to go into the
outbox and FORWARD the email to the same address already
listed on the message.

Your database may have become corrupted. If you delete or move the .idx files under the Outlook directory this will force Outlook to rebuild it's database. You will not lose any saved e-mails

Ya know, if you give the version of Outlook, we can bring down the back and
forth a couple of times..

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the SWEN virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted
without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Doug asked:

I have exactly the same problem...

I upgraded from Outlook 2000 and am running Outlook 2003 using POP3
accounts through an LAN-based (always on -- cable) Internet
connection.

The symptoms are exactly the same. The messages go in to the Outbox
but they do not get sent. The envelope icon on the left of the
message is not the same as those that do get sent. I can open the
message, change accounts, click on Send and they will not get sent.

Forwarding or copying and pasting the entire text in to a new message
is the only thing that works...

:-(

Problem happens to me too.

I am running Outlook 2003 and have Norton Antivirus and Interne
Security installed. Does anyone else? I am also connected to th
Internet by cable (opposed to dial-up).

There are some mails (e.g. when I create new mail) which will appear i
italic in the outbox (and then would go out once I press the sen
button). However, when I go into the outbox I just have to click onc
on them (without opening) and they are immediately moved into the "n
date" group, after which they just sit there (forwarding them the
seems to do the trick)

All of what you described is exactly the same situation I have
(Outlook 2003, NAV 2004 and NIS 2004) and broadband (both cable and
ADSL).

Actually if I do not go to the Outbox then everything leaves fine.
However if I open the Outbox then whichever message is currently
highlighted does not get sent and if I click on a message it no longer
gets sent.

I assume this has something to do with the View I am using the Outbox
so I tried setting different views and testing and all of the views do
this to me.

As long as I do not open the Outbox, with messages waiting in it, then
they all leave.

I have exactly the same problem. But I have Outlook 2002
and NAV 2002 without the Internet Security.

I have also tried amending every option and view I can
think of, but to no avail. Re-opening the affected
message as if to edit it, and then clicking 'send', DOES
fix the problem, but it is a bit of a nuisance. I may try
reinstalling Outlook and see if that helps!

Some people have reported that the problem can be helped by increasing your
mail server timeout to 10 minutes.
