emails replied to don't change the read icon to replied help

Hi,
When I reply to an email using outlook it doesn't change the "read" icon to
replied (the icon that looks like an opened email with a left pointing arrow.

I have ofiice 2003, part of office 2003 office prefessional edition
11.8010.6568 sp2
