Emails disappeared

Hi,

I am using outlook XP in Win XP Pro XP2 with Exchange in Win SBS 2003.

I created many subfolders within my "Inbox" to categorised my incoming emails.
However some emails seem to have mysteriously disapeared from some of these
these sub folders.

I do not have any rules set in the Outlook. I had deactivated the
Auto-archive.

Pls help.

Thanks & Best Regards

Thanks romo17.

though I have a laptop set to cache mode, BUT these mails are not appearing
in Outlook XP, in a office desktop computer which "offline folder" is not
enabled". i.e. these mails really disappeared from the exchange server.

Hi kpy,

I have just experienced this same thing. Lots of folders for filing and
yesterday I noticed most of the folders were empty. I checked some settings
and even if archiving was on, it should have moved email 90 and older to my
archive file, yet, there is email almops a year old in one of my sybfolders
and my archive is completely empty.

Did you ever figure your situation out? - thanks - Doug

I too suffer the same affliction. I noticed this issue started about a month
or two ago - and at the time it did not seem like I was losing as many
emails. Now I notice it happeneing on a weekly basis, and it only seems to
happen in my INBOX folder.
I will be trying to find resolution and I will keep you posted - or likewise
if you find out let us all know.
Thanks

I believe I have found my problem - and maybe yours. I use Outlook Express
at home occaisonally, and it is set to retrieve messages from my Exchange
Server. However, in the Outlook Express at my home, under
TOOLS>ACCOUNTS>MAIL(tab)>highlight "your account" then PROPERTIES and go to
Advanced(tab) and select "Leave copy on Server".
I have no idea how this got unchecked, cause I was sure it used to be-Oh
well, I think this will solve it for me. I noticed that I have about 200
emails that hve been "disappearing" from my Outlook at the office.
Let me know if thisa helps.

Thanks Paul.

I don't use outlook express. My mobile phone has such setting and it's
enabled.

My experience with such setting turned off is it will emptied all your
emails in your Exchange mailbox i.e. leaving your an empty Inbox, and not
partially moved like what you encountered.

Keep us posted about your situation.

Thanks & Best Regards

Hi kpy & Paul,

I use Outlook Express in a very limited way but it does not check the
account I am experiencing difficulty with which is my work account.

It is just so strange...most email is gone, except for 2 subfolders that
contain email almost a year old, nothing else is older than Octobe 27. All
folders indicate "Do Not archive". my archive .pdt file is empty BUT, I have
a 55 MB .ost file so I still have hope. I will be speaking with our
postmaster today. Somewhere, somehow there is a log file of what happened. -

PS, where folks from?

My Outlook Express account at home only has the basic folders, not all the
specialized folders I added, and these were the folders where my emails were
disappearing from. Apparently, when I would VPN into the office and open
Outlook Express(OE) from home, during the VPN session, OE would grab my
emails from the basic folders and not leave a copy in my office Outlook
folders. This is why only certain folders and messages where being snarfed;
And they were only disappearing after OE would synchronize with my Exchange
server.

I will post more later after I confirm this has solved my problem - But so
far it looks good.
