Emailing Slideshow with sound

S

Sija

I've created a slideshow in Powerpoint 2000 with sound. I've placed
the sound on the first slide and it plays through the entire slide
show (20 slides); however, when I e-mail the pps, it only has the
slideshow (with the speaker on the 1st slide)but no sound. Can you
tell me what I'm doing wrong and why my sound does not e-mail with the
slideshow. I've spent hours trying to figure this out and I'm
stumped. My sound file is either a wav or mp3 format. I e-mailed it
to myself and I thought it worked, but then I e-mailed it to someone
else and to another computer and the sound doesn't play. Please help.

Your sound file is linked, not embedded. If you email it to yourself and run
it on the same computer that created the presentation, it will be able to
locate and use the sound file on your computer. But when emailed to another
computer, the sound file does not exist on it and therefore cannot play it.

You have two options:
1. email the sound file with the presentation. If doing this you will want
to reinsert the sound file. Delete the sound from your presentation. Copy
and paste the sound file into the SAME folder as the presentation. Insert
the sound file into the presentation. Email presentation and sound file
together.
2. .WAV files can be embedded into a presentation and will always play
(because they are literally a part of the presentation). The downside to
this is that the presentation file size will become larger (size of sound
file). To do this, delete the sound file. Make sure it is a .wav format (if
it is an .MP3 you will need to convert it to a .wav with sound editing
software). In PowerPoint go to TOOLS >> OPTIONS >> EDIT tab and raise the
default 100k to 50,000k. Insert .wav file.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

It sounds like your sound files are linked (not embedded). PowerPoint will
only embed *.WAV media files. Other types of sounds and movies will always
be linked. PowerPoint does not include supporting (or linked) content for a
presentation when you send a presentation via e-mail.

There are a variety of workarounds including:

* Converting your sound files to *.WAV format and reinserting them.
* Pack and Go (or Package for CD) to create a "portable" set of files to
send (not using the Send command in PowerPoint).
* Saving as HTML and posting to a location e-mail recipients can access and
then just sending them the address of the web page for the presentation.
* Saving as MHTML (Single File Web Page) and sending the resulting file in
e-mail.

Of course, If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
the "Send to ->Mail Recipient" command should include option(s) which make
it possible for recipients to see or receive the supporting/linked content,
don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft
at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible. Each submission should be
a single suggestion (not a list of suggestions).

Hi

Were the slides in your show timed? I timed each at say 9 seconds, but
found it actually played for 10-12 seconds each, not 9, on top of which
the lengths played different each time. As a result, the sound never
ended on time with the last slide. I had this trouble with 2 computers,
as did a friend. Did you encounter that trouble?
