Emailing individual contacts from 2003 to 2007

My wife uses Outlook 2003 on Exchange, I have 2007 using POP. It doesn't
seem to matter how she
attaches or forwards a contact from her Outlook (2003) to mine (2007) I
always receive attachments that show the message icon instead of the contact
icon and when I open them they are empty. What's the secret?

More info. Interesting. I have just set up Outlook 2003 on XP on my other
machine and emailed a contact. That comes through into Outlook 2007 on Vista
perfectly OK. Why should a contact emailed from O2003 also on XP on my
wife's machine, come through as a msg attachment and not a contact
attachment?

troubleshooting as well ;-)

Do you see a difference in how she attaches it and how you are attaching it?
Can you post the exact steps to reproduce for both of you?

Also take a look at the message format that is being used, is it still that
message format when it arrives?
Does changing the message format to Plain Text solves it?

You say when you open it that they are empty. Which form gets loaded? A
message form or a contact form?

The two things we both did in Outlook 2003 are 1: Right-click on Contact and
choose "Forward and 2: drag the contact into a new message window
In both cases the attachment from my wife appeared on my Outlook 2007 as a
msg attachment and not a Contact attachment which mine did.

that message format when it arrives?

That's interesting. I notice that the messages from MY Outlook 2003 are
Western European (Windows) encoded while those from my wife are Unicode.
Would that have a bearing? (Her machine is currently turned off and I may
not be able to look at it for a few days as she's going on a business trip
early tomorrow)

Message form. The attachments are in msg format....

The fact that it is an msg-file doesn't necessarily make it use the message
form. All Outlook items are msg-files unless you specify it to be saved
differently. Event contact items don't turn themselves into vcf-files or
something; they are by default msg-files.

Could the file have been damaged in the transfer process? The fact that it
arrived empty would assume so.

How would I check that? Could it be due to her corporate AV? (Not sure which
one they use). All other attachments come over OK....

sending a Contact and see if it works. Insert the Contact as an Outlook

For starters, the size would be different. Possibly even 0KB. Yes, virus
scanners are always suspects. Especially when it comes to msg-files they
seem to assume the ipm.note form with the experienced consequences.

Sorry Russ, didn't see your suggestion because I've killfiled gmail in
total fro all the spam about watches and sports shoes, with the
exceptoion of PA Bear and now you!

inserting as an Outlook item?

When spanning Outlook versions, the most reliable method is to insert the
Contact as an Outlook Item in an RTF message. That method is also reliable
with any message format in newer versions. From the Contacts Folder, Actions

Send Full Contact > In Outlook Format also works in current versions.

Dragging a Contact to a message window may not always work depending on your
version, message format, account type, and AV email software (which no one
should be using anyway although many have no choice).
