emailing a secure database

I am sending a database that has been set up with users and permissions using
the Security wizard from the office to my home office. I know not to send
the shortcut from the desktop but the actual mdb file. when I zip it up and
send it - when I open it at home is says don't have exclusive access to this
database at this time. If you proceed to make changes you may not be able to
make them at this time. And I can't save changes to the design. Not sure if
it is the way I am unzipping it (don't think so ) or related that it is a
secure(???) file. When I open it not via the shortcut at work - doesn't ask
for username(which I understand is the way it should work). Just want to
open it at home and modify it.

Thanks,
Barb

You need to also send the mdw file.

At home you are joined to system.mdw workgroup file (system.mdw) and rightly
so, you don't have permissions. You need to open it using the secure mdw
you have at work.

No. Your shortcut at work should ask for a username/password (unless it is
specified in the desktop shortcut (unlikely))

It may not be secured properly if you can open it at work without supplying
a username/password.
Just want to open it at home and modify it.
You need to send the secure mdw to home as well.

Then open the database using this secure mdw.

The shortcut on the desktop at work does ask for username and password but
when go directly into the database via the folder it is stored in (mdb file)
the user and password is not prompted(thought that is how it should be).
When get sent the .mdw file also do I put it in same folder as the sent mdb
file via email???? what am I using to open it???- the emailed files.

Thanks,

No login, but can you open the mdb? If so, then you didn't secure it
properly.

Put the .mdw file in the same folder as the mdb. Then create a desktop
shortcut with the following in the target:

"Path to msaccess.exe" "path to mdb" /wrkgrp "path to mdw"

I would like to UNSECURE the .mdb file so I can send it and have the design
modified without having to send the .mdw file. Any ideas.

Thanks,

You can unsecure the mdb. You need to login as a member of the Admins
Group, or the owner.

Give full permissions on every object to the Users Group.
Quit Access, and restart it while joined to system.mdw
Create a new mdb and import all the objects from your mdb.
