i have an email stuck in my outbox and cannot send as everything backs up
behind it; how do i delete it? I've tried right clicking and deleting but I
get an "unknown error" message

Try the Hotfix in this support file:

This fix states a specific case but has been known to fix other mail
folders. Also, the present thinking is that the problem is caused by
various Antivirus software misbehaving. The fix may be needed again.
