Email, Vista and McAfee

Guest

I am having numerous problems with email and want to get rid of McAfee. I
thought I would use the Add/Remove program, then the uninstall tool from
McAfee. I read elsewhere on another forum to first disable email integration
but don't know what that means. If anyone can give me some VERY simple advice
on how to proceed I'd be very grateful.
I'm thinking of going to Avast or AVG. Unfortunately, my troubles started
after the 30-day McAfee trial (3 year contract came with new Dell computer).
Can I cancel the subscription? Any advice?

Hi technerd,

I can tell you how to proceed, but post back with your McAfee VirusScan
version information. Each is a little different.

You don't need the version number or to disable anything. Just use the
add/remove program. Sorry no you cannot claim a refund on McF. It is a catch
you type of service on new computer?

Go for Avast, it probably the best free one.

Getting rid of McAfee is a reward in and of itself.

Like supermarket loss leaders.

The experiences recorded on the Windows.vista.mail forum
definitely concur that that Avast (and AVG) are robust and
reliable (free) products.

note. Antivirus email scanning by any product is superfluous.

I removed McAfee and installed Avast, but I am still having problems sending
email in Windows Mail. When I hit the send button, the message goes to the
outbox and stays there until I log out of Mail, then a window pops up telling
me I have unsent messages in outbox and do I want to send them now. How can I
fix this so that when I hit send or 'send and receive' messages actually get
sent.

Please note that McAfee anti-virus is not wholly compatible
with Vista and has been implicated in many problems.

Even if McAfee of your problem you might consider replacing it
proactively with a free Vista compatible alternative such as...

Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Other people advocate another, free, alternative...

AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/frt/0?prd=aff

Hello Lynne,
Fyi---The correct newsgroup for MSn problems is:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.msn.discussion
Click on the above link to post questions to that forum and then provide
additional info:
Browser: IE7 or MSn Explorer ?
McAfee: Stand Alone or MSn premium provided McAffee Virus Guard ?

For starters:
-Ensure that no malware is present using a reputable malware scanner
e.g.Spybot or Ad-Aware, or an online scanner of your choice.
-Additionally if Spybot is installed on Vista, disable the Immunization
function.
-Delete all msn.com, live.com cookies, and temp files.
-Add msn.com to the trusted sites
